fall football

I used to be soo bored whenever "watching" football.  I didn't understand it, and really didn't try to either.  We did not watch much football in the house I grew up in - no no we watched Duke Basketball and that's pretty much it.  Now, it's different.  I thoroughly enjoy watching it, and it is all due to Casey.  From the time we dated (through infinite) he has been/will be explaining everything to me.  We have another home game tomorrow, and the weather is supposed to be perfectly fallish.

Two weeks ago.

We kinda miss sitting in the student section sometimes.  If we still sat there, that would mean we are not filing our own taxes, and worried about life insurance policies.

Friends that are coming to stay with us this weekend!

Maybe it won't take until infinite for me to learn everything there is to know ;)
Happy Friday to all!

This is what September smells like

This past weekend Casey and I packed up a few belongings and headed north to Cleveland.  Looking back, we realized we hand not been since Father's day weekend in June.  We were long over due.

During the drive, we stopped at Sonic.  Sometimes, there is nothing better than a good ole' fashioned hot dog.  I almost can't understand why some people despise them so much, but they do.  Our Strawberry Cream Slush's really hit the spot too.

When we pulled into the flatlands, Casey sniffed and said, "Ugh, what is that smell?"  I replied, "Defoliant, this is what September smells like in the Delta.  The farmers have to spray it in order to kill/prep the cotton plants for harvesting."  It's funny, I didn't mind smelling it one bit because it brought back memories.   Smells are weird like that.

I didn't take one single picture while I was in Cleveland.  But on our way back, we say a doe and her two fawns grazing right in the middle of Clinton, MS.  We pulled over, and were able to get fairly close for a couple of snapshots with my phone.

You could say that I come from the same place that my brothers do, as far as having an appreciation for wildlifeIt's a wonderful thing to behold. (Except for bugs in your bathroom, or house, period.)

Part of a love story

Elbows leaned on the brick red counter-top; I squint into the bright night air, a combination of New York City’s Christmas lights along with the white ice of Central Park’s rink.  The air is chilly, but my palms still clammy from the thrill of feeling out of control atop the blue and silver rental blades.  Figure skating has always been easy to watch on television, but I have a new found respect for the balance and control those athletes possess.  I am thankful to be taking a break, and so are my shaky legs.  Watching others skate inside the rink works to soothe my injured pride.  There are many people who resemble my skating abilities, struggling to place one foot in front of the other and glide forward.  Of course, in the mix there are the seasoned veterans who can whip out a triple sow cow or whatever.  Among all of the strangers, my eyes seek out a particularly entertaining pair.  My boyfriend (Casey) is teaching one of our mutual female friends how to skate.  They are both laughing, and barely moving.  Someone slips and crashes down near them, splashing melted ice water on them.  I giggle out loud while watching them.  As they skirt past my observation post, a thought flickers across my mind.  “I love him.”   Wait…what?  Rewind!  What is my brain thinking?   Instinctually, the corners of my mouth pull into a slight smile.  I shake my head, take a deep breath, and attempt to evaluate.  Except this time, the thought is not a fleeting one.   I say it slowly in my mind.  “I…love…him.”  In that moment of my life, love made more sense to me than ever before.  I finally had a greater perspective on the difference between romantic love and love that is shared by family and friends.  Falling in love or romantic love is not just a dizzy tizzy feeling in your stomach.  Although, those butterflies can feel very alive, it is or should not be what drives us to want to spend the rest of our lives with someone.  On the other hand, love is not just hugs, kisses, and Christmas presents from parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.  Of course, I am not making light of family love, because it is real and special.  However, love is an action; or rather, a series of actions that should never stop.  I had heard that phrase before, but had never really meditated upon the meaning of it.   As I watched Casey instruct our friend out on the ice, and saw how patient he was, I realized he was doing it out of love.  It was completely platonic, because he views her as a sister, but love nonetheless.  Consequently, even though I was a complete klutz, he still happily skated with me. Casey validated his love by the way he assisted me, and the attitude he had while doing it.  He was cheering for me, just like always.   I knew he loved me before he ever told me, because it showed again and again.  I caught on to the loving actions, and that naturally triggered my initial “I love him” thought.  More proof?  Amazingly, he still wanted to spend time with me, whether I had an emotional break down or spent the day laughing with him.  These collective ramblings remind me of another phrase.  “Actions speak louder than words.”  In this story, that has never been more accurate.  Words are a typical way of interacting one another, but actions lead to the greatest form of communicating intent and commitment.

9.10.11

A very sweet college friend of mine was married in Hattiesburg on the date listed in the above title.  It was a picture book day to say the least.  The weather was dry, sunny, with a touch of cool in the mornings, which was a drastic change to the previous weekend (Labor Day) when we had Tropical Storm Lee.

I was her proxy bride at the rehearsal and this was my bouquet.  It was handmade in California by a groom's side family friend.  By the way, I should mention that Amy, (bride) and her now husband, Tim live in California.  Tim grew up in CA and has a great job out there, but Mississippi really misses Amy.  Even though she has a good job out there now too...

The rehearsal dinner was at the Root Beer Saloon.

Groom and Bride =cuties.

Me with one of the wedding musicians.  I think he is really cute too...

Sometimes I just pretend that Amy is on an extended vacation in Cali.  And sometimes I'm not a very realistic person.

The whole establishment had loads of character.

It has been so fun to get to know Heather!  We threw a shower together for Amy.

The next day we started out with breakfast at this table.  So lovely.

A few hours later -Beautiful bride.

Adorable table arrangements at the reception, handmade by Amy, family and friends.

Just looks like fall.

Sweet couple.

Man love.

By the way my hair was styled like this...It was so fun.

Back to the end of the reception...
Missy sang with Casey and wow.  One of the best dues ever created.

One last picture.

Congratulations Amy and Tim!  The weekend was wondeful, and we love you both!

Water...

Rain water.  That is what we have been seeing, hearing, and smelling for 4 days.  The tropical storm dumped around 15 inches of rain on us.  It was pretty incredible.  However, today is bright, sunny, and cool! I cannot remember a time when a hint of fall air has arrived so early in Mississippi.  Don't worry about us though, it'll be back up in the high 90's by next week.

I would like to share a few pics from our first Southern Miss home game.  First of all, this game started at 9:00pm on Saturday night, and did not end until 12:45am.  Secondly, there was a tropical storm occuring.  AND we had a fairly full stadium.  True fans.

This picture was taken as soon as we entered the stadium...45 min before the game started.  You can understand why there are not too many people present yet.  You have to understand how hardcore, my husband, and the people we tailgate with/sit with are about Southern Miss football.  On a sunny day, we enter the stadium at least 1 1/2 hours before the game starts, so we can watch the pre-game.  That means we watch both football teams stretch and do jumping jacks.
None of the players really wanted to sit down and stretch before this game.

Casey loves to cheer.  He is so horse, listening to him sing is funny.

Half-time.

Kelsey and me.  The wives that earn extra bonus points with the men we live with for going to games like this.   Just kidding, marriage doesn't work like that.  This is right after the end of the game, and we laughed at how soaked we were.

The guys.  Kelsey is married to Neil, who is on the far left.

*One last very important thing.  Thank you to all of you who take the time to read my ramblings.  Knowing who my readers are makes it more fun and encourages me to keep blogging.
Also, thanks for the kind feedback about my colorful canvas
It is now hanging on new nails that are straight.  :)
